WELLBEING IN THE HUTT VALLEY

Eastern Hutt Rotary has been working on improving the health of our community, of which nearly half will be over 65 in the next ten years.

Rotarians door-knocked 4000 homes identified as having high needs, to spread the word about the Government’s subsidised ceiling and underfloor insulation scheme to create warmer and drier homes.

Quite a few older people were not aware their health could be at risk living in a cold or damp home, but there was a generally good appreciation of the health benefits of insulation,” said Project Leader John Terris.

The State is by far the biggest single landlord in the Hutt Valley and the local management has promised their full cooperation as HCNZ and Rotarians work together to get insulation for all the tenants who need it.

To help promote the message in Winter, families need to look after themselves and seek advice where necessary.  Eastern Hutt Rotary, with Hutt City Council and Housing New Zealand, have brought together about 20 agencies whose help and advice will be available on Saturday, August 12th."

Exhibitors included Hutt City’s Home Insulation team, The Fitness Centre, Wellington Free Ambulance, the Fire Service, The Regional Public Health Service and Tenancy Services, among others.  One of the big draws at the Expo show will be the Safekids Aotearoa Safety Whare, which attracts a lot of children because it’s all interactive.

There is no door charge, And to top it all,  there is a Free Lunch!
