Mitch Brown’s Rotofest Event promises to be a lively affair and it would be great to have a good turnout from our club.

For those looking to use hotel accommodation, there are arrangements with three hotels – approx. prices for two nights being Copthorne ($330) Distinction ($280) and Coachman ($260).  To give us an opportunity of being together, I’m putting a notice board round next Monday for members, without commitment, to indicate their preferences.

Can you please confer at home as to whether you are coming, or may come, and be ready to respond next Monday.  The outcome will be advised so people have the opportunity to gather at one hotel, if they prefer.

Last count there were 15, so there is room for many more!!

Last Meeting: Our District Governor, Mitch Brown
For those who couldn't come, a treat was missed!  Interestingly, even though he lives in Bunnythorp, just out from Palmerston North, he was born in Elsdon and was once at Epuni school.
His easy-listening and the inspiring talk was notable for particularly two reasons:
  1. He shared his Rotary experience and how he got the spirit.  Mitch had been nominated to go to the National Fire Academy in America.  When Dr John Cole (no relation) learned about his exciting nomination, he asked if there was anything he could do to help and Mitch responded saying he couldn't afford the airfare.  John said you've got to go, let me see what I can do and subsequently organised the funds through his business and Rotary connections.
  2. He told us that we must change the mindset about Rotary's future.  He shared with us what Stratford Rotary had faced with an average age of 80.  They helped establish a Satellite Club, led by a young former RYLA candidate.  What this new group of enthusiastic young group lacked was the existing club's wealth of experience of business and community leaders and access to trust funds.  Combining these two forces was exactly what Stratford needed for Rotary's great work to continue.
Learn more about how Rotary must evolve and come to Rotafest in Palmerston North - 11-13th May!
