Welcome to Eastern Hutt Rotary's e-Bulletin.
Our recent new member, John Matthews, shared highlights of his life since he grew up on a farm in the small historic Wairarapa village, of Te Ore Ore. One of 5 siblings, he had a typical farm kid's life and the chore of feeding all the animals - in fact, his father still breeds and keeps 400 pigeons and 400 chooks!
John met his wife, Annie, at school. After crafting his original trade as a printer, 7 years later, he and Annie took off to England - also to explore Europe. He worked at the NZ Times before returning to live in Wellington. Back here, he worked for the now-defunct business, Calvert Plastics in Stokes Valley and purchased their first house in Riddlers Crescent, Petone. That was the start of his interest in property - they did this place up, bought another, and over time have done this with 10 of their homes.
Today, they have 2 successful children in their early 20's and John now works as an agent for Ray White Real Estate. He's community-minded and served many years on the Hutt Valley High School Board, 5 years as President. A great pleasure now is getting young people into their first homes - in fact, he sold 5 homes in Wainuiomata this week!
Week's Parting Thought:
"A Canadian psychologist is selling a video that teaches you how to test your dog's IQ. Here's how it works. If you spend $12.99 for the video your dog is smarter than you."
