Last Meeting: Anna Hewitt
Anna gave an interesting account of her background and today's interest in assisting children with learning difficulties. Born in Lower Hut, where she schooled, she later studied at Wellington Teachers Training College. A spell in Australia was where she found her passion, where she taught in a special needs school in Sydney.
She learned skills to assist children to learn differently, such as feeling, touching, games, etc - we all have different preference to learning. Some children live in an "invisible" environment and this "blocks" their minds. School can be "a prison" to some and this must be acknowledged. The key is to find the missing connection.
These days, Anna only takes little children but loves every minute helping them to learn more.
Week's Parting Thought:
"A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again."
Last Sunday my wife and I, along with our daughter and one of her friends, went for a bush walk at a place that has been a family favourite for forty years. It was a beautiful cool but sunny day. We dawdled and got only three-quarters of the way from Catchpool Valley to the Orongorongo River while our daughter and her friend walked the full distance.
Please study and plan ahead, especially if you are on duty to write a Bulletin Contribution. A reminder that it's also your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfil your duty.
