Welcome to Eastern Hutt Rotary's e-Bulletin. smiley
Katie Terris - Hutt Volunteering:

Katie has been with Volunteer Hutt for 12 years, working only with not-for-profit organisations. They work with 100-105 organisations and some 480 volunteers. In addition, corporates offer a day's voluntary work to not-for-profits and charities which Volunteer Hutt helps to organise.  NZ contributes $3.3 billion of time from volunteering - 3rd highest in the world.

It's the people,” she says, that provides the enjoyment of her job.  Here's some of the work they're involved in: training/learning, mentoring, reading at schools, social service, collectors, admin/computer skills, loneliness, work redundancy, give back to society.

It must be meaningful work and this goes with rights and responsibilities - volunteers must see through the work and agencies respect their volunteers.  They especially love to engage young people - for a day, week, month or even a year, e.g. IT students helping hospitals. But even those who have a tendency to undervalue themselves.

Katie did have a plea for help; they need a business or someone to sponsor an add in the Hutt News, around $100 per week.

If you're on Facebook, take a look at their page here.

Week's Parting Thought:
"The past is behind, learn from it.  The future is ahead, prepare for it.  The present is here, live it."
~ Thomas S. Monson

Our District conference is in Palmerston North, on the weekend of 11-13th May.  Mitch Brown’s conference promises to be a lively affair and it would be great to have a good turnout from our club.  It will include District training, so it’s important that as many incoming board members as possible attend.

For those looking to use hotel accommodation, there are arrangements with three hotels – approx. prices for two nights being Copthorne ($330) Distinction ($280) and Coachman ($260).  To give us an opportunity of being together, I’m putting a notice board round next Monday for members, without commitment, to indicate their preferences.

Can you please confer at home as to whether you are coming, or may come, and be ready to respond next Monday.  The outcome with be advised so people have the opportunity to gather at one hotel, if they prefer.

Te Araroa Trail - Graham Bocock
Several suggested they would be interested in Graham Bocock's 'bucket list' journey on The Te Araroa Trail
Here is an account up to Palmerston North, which will be continued next week, finishing off the North Island.
