David Ruscoe -  Demystifying  Cryptocurrency

Background. "Crypto currency is a  digital currency maintained on a decentralised system (or block chain) using cryptography"  - Dave Ruscoe.
A dollar is just a concept.  In the old days  you  were guaranteed by the government that you could exchange it for gold (the "gold standard") but that ceased in the 1930s.  The supply of dollars is regulated by arms of the New Zealand government which has its own discipline, otherwise it could make everyone seem richer by just printing more.  Our currency is now heavily regulated, as is its use.

General Notices

*  Please note there will no meeting on 26 September as it is now a public holiday to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

President Kathy wishes to apologise for the late change to this week's speaker.

*  Chris Tchernegovski, the organiser of the "Ride the Train For Polio" fundraiser has advised that the event raised $1200 from the raffle and donation buckets.  He doesn't have the final figure from the T shirt sales and donations yet.

*  The Rotary Club of River Valley has asked us for helpers to do traffic management for a Quilters Exhibition at Sacred Heart in the school holidays.  They require helpers for the following times:  Tuesday 4 October from 9.00am, Wednesday 5 October, Sunday 9 October from 7.30am to 10.30m.  The job is simple traffic management in the school grounds.  It will be a standing job, so they are looking at shifts of up to 1 1/2 hours.  If you are interested/able to help please let President Kathy know which day and what time suits.

*  The District AGM will be held, as last year, by Zoom at 10.00am on Sunday 20th November. The Quorum for this meeting will be 21 Clubs represented by Officers or a Member holding a Proxy vote (details on Proxy voting will be circulated in late October).

*  The District Conference will start on the evening of Friday 17 March 2023, at Nga Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae, and continue through Saturday 18th and Sunday 18th March at Southwards Car Museum. Sadly D&J's Secret Hideaway is booked.
