Linda Goss-Wallace provided the opening words at the start of our meeting:

"Volunteers don't get paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless" - Sherry Anderson

General Notices

* Thank you to members who responded to Richard Stephen from the Rotary Club of River Valley's call to assist with traffic management for the Quilters Exhibition at Sacred Heart College.

* This year's Hutt Riverbank Clean up will be held on Sunday 16 October weather permitting. The alternative day will be Sunday 30 October. The start time is 9:30am at the Hutt City Riverbank Carpark.  Annette advises  "We will finish with a cuppa at 10:30ish.  I will bring something for morning tea but people will have to bring their own hot drink if they want one"  If you can help please see Annette.

* President Kathy has advised that members are most welcome to bring partners to our meeting on 17 October when we have the guest speaker Sir Anand Satyanand.  His wife Susan will be coming along that evening.

* Rotary is seeking applicants for the next RYLA course, to be held at Forest Lakes from 25 to 29th January 2023. Applicants should be aged between 18 and 24, and have leadership potential. Applications close on 15th November.  If you require further information speak to Robin Aitken.

* At our last meeting President Kathy spoke to members about switching to Ethify internet.  Friends and family can support Rotary by switching too.  Ethify is a socially minded internet service provider.  With Ethify, a portion of your monthly bill is donated back to Rotary.  And it’s a premium service – incredible technical support (not that you should need it!), the best wireless technology for your home, delivered over the fastest fibre network.  If you are interested in switching please speak to Phillip Reidy of Plimmerton Rotary.

Parting Thought

Colin Alford provided the parting thought at the end of the evening

“If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap.

If you want happiness for a day, go fishing.

If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune.

If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.”

– Chinese Proverb
