Last Meeting: Committee Meeting Night
 
President Robert outlined his ideas for his year:
  • Committee Meeting nights will be on the second Monday of the month, starting in September
  • Board Meetings will be on the third Monday, 4.30 - 5.45pm (to have the previous month's financials available)
  • Discussion of contentious club matters should be on Committee nights when guests are not present
  • Tony Cornelius (Treasurer) and David Thompson (Secretary) may sit with various Committees when relevant to their interests
  • Club Service Committee members can also sit with other Committees
  • Members' Contributions to the Bulletin will be once a month rather than weekly
  • Each month one member, chosen by lot, will give a 3 minute uniterrupted talk about any topic of their choosing
  • Instead of having an International Committee, each Committee should now accept an international task - we're all part of Rotary International
  • The Special Projects Committee is now intentionally small, being the managers of the projects where a large number (nearly all) members participate in their execution, or where key individuals may be invited for a short period for a single project.
There was some useful and healthy discussion about these changes, as is to be expected at any Rotary meeting. The new Committees then convened for their first meetings of the new Rotary year.

Bulletin Contribution

The Auckland Marathon
The Auckland Marathon generally attracts over 10,000 participants, all running or walking over the harbour bridge early in the morning. In preparation for this, marathons are held at least five times in different locations on five weekends. It used to be coupled with short distance runs, children’s events and so on, lasting three to four hours.  The first practice marathon is usually held at Unitec, and then the others are in different locations around Auckland. The Rotary Club of Western Springs, my former club, has over the last 6 to 7 years been volunteering the marshalling activity for this event.

Go to our Website first, then look at Calendar, you will see 3 options, "Speakers", "Events Calendar" and "Rotary Calendar".  The latter is what's happening in the District, if you want to see this.  However, go back to Events Calendar to see what's happening with us and you will see 3 options.  These are: Calendar, Grid and List.  Have a look at all three and pick the one that suits you best.  I like List or Grid and you can print out the one that you like best.
