"Village" implies a community where everyone looks after each other, and Project Village's purpose is "caring for the most vulnerable in our community".
Rose was the primary caregiver for her elderly, frail mother. During the Covid lockdown Rose needed to keep her mother stimulated in the absence of normal social activities. Of necessity she devised activities she could do with her mother such as dominoes, home-made bingo, bowling ping pong balls and throwing sock bags. They may seem trivial, but they involved stimulation and interaction which are far better options than doing nothing and being miserable.
After her mother died Rose realised that her ideas could help others in similar situations. With her husband she developed a well-presented self-contained kit which held suitable activities for the elderly to play with neighbours, friends and family.
These iingenius kits contain items such as arts and crafts materials, jigsaw puzzles, dominoes, canvas and paint, bingo boards, short stories etc. They cost $60 each and contents can be tailored to suit a particular recipient if need be.
With sponsorship from a number of local businesses Rose and Tai have made these kits available to people in her own community and are using churches and organisations like Aged Care to reach out to other people who could benefit from them.
