Last Meeting:Sue Avison - Innovative Young Minds (IYM)
Past President of Hutt City Rotary, Sue Avison shared with us the details of this Rotary event for young women. Along with our hard working Eastern Hutt Rotary members Annette and Jaye, Sue has been involved with since its inception and coordinates this with Laura from the Hutt City Council.
It originated from the low numbers of young women apparently interested in technology and engineering careers, compared to their male counterparts. Now IYM has taken-off and now has firm links with Silicon Valley in the US. Candidates are aged between 15-16, they are pre-selected by the schools and frequently those students who are less fortunate.
HEREis an abbreviated copy of her presentation and a former candidate's video HERE.
Volunteer drivers are required to cover the two weeks in July, so if you're interested, speak to Annette Ruck or Jaye Howey.
