Last Meeting: American Ambassador - Scott Brown
What a most interesting person and entertaining address!  Scott is married to Gayle with two daughters but he is also a keen musician and plays, still, in a local rock band.  As the United States Ambassador to NZ and several Polynesian Islands, he is the "ambassador to the largest area of interest in the world."  Scott spoke very fluently and relatively openly, explaining how he could not meddle in NZ politics, nor criticise his President - but for a few awful tweets!

In many ways he epitomises the American dream.  After a difficult childhood (his parents were both divorced/remarried three times), he said he was a tearaway youth, indeed a juvenile delinquent, but was saved by a good teacher, a good coach and a judge who gave him a second chance.  Successful at university he became a lawyer before joining the National Guard, in which he served for 39 years, attaining the rank of Colonel.  He was also an analyst for Fox News, and then in 2017 after a career in local government, he became a senator, where he claimed to be the most bi-partisan Republican in the Senate.

Scott defended his President's record, explaining what you saw is what you got, though he did have some rough edges.  Nevertheless Donald Trump has re-negotiated the trade deal with Canada and Mexico, resolved a trade dispute with China, stood-up to them when necessary, and among other things, is working on a trade deal with NZ.  He's tried to "Make America Great Again".

In answers to questions, he pointed out that the USA is a federal democracy, which is not as easy to govern like NZ, and is also much larger.  Life New York which has 10,000 people per sq.km, so it makes controlling Covid-19 quite different than here.  He also defended Trump's antagonism to Obamacare as it was a "very bad deal" and answered a question about Trump demanding Hillary Clinton's tax records, but refusing to reveal his own.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
