Last Meeting: Rob Prince - Clay Shooting
A fascinating talk by NZ's 4-time clay target shooting's national champion, Rob Prince about how he got started and his experiences.  He's currently Club Captain of the Hutt Valley Clay Target Club and said there were about 215 members in their Club (2nd largest in NZ) and around 2,400 in NZ.  Ages from 11 to 70+.

He got into this hobby, living in Whiteman's Valley, after his father taught him to shoot when he was at Heretaunga College. It's continued to be a family interest as he now competes with his 15-year old daughter! Rob has been very fortunate to compete all over the world and getting through Customs has been an experience!

It can be expensive if he's not winning as his specially designed German shot-gun used would have cost him $12,500 - he is very grateful for his sponsors. He would love to compete at the Olympics, but the cost becomes the big issue. His national competitor, Natalie Rooney, is very fortunate to have the financial support necessary.

Week's Parting Thought: "Everything I need to Know I learned from Noah’s Ark".

  • Don’t miss the boat.
  • Remember that we are all in the same boat.
  • Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
  • Stay fit. When you’re old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
  • Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
  • Two heads are better than one.
  • Build your future on high ground.
  • For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
  • Stay below the deck during the storm
  • Remember that the woodpeckers inside are often a bigger threat than the storm outside.
  • Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were aboard with the cheetahs.
  • When you’re stressed, float a while.
  • Remember the ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
  • No matter how bleak it looks, there’s always a rainbow waiting.

Life
Having recently lost a sibling in a family of five, it has again made me very aware again of how unpredictable life can be and the ramifications that emerge from an event.
