Last Meeting:
Rachelwas recognised as the Maori Woman Business Leader 2018 and having heard her introductory C.V. we can see why. After studying Medicine, then Law, she became Trade Commissioner, founded the Yellow Brick Road Seafood Company and finally became CEO of Kono, part of the Whakatu Corporation. She emphasised her belief in "Service Leadership".
The main part of her talk was on a more personal level, recounting her ten most memorable meals. Starting with the regular "Tea and Toast in bed" which her grandfather unfailingly served her grandmother, they progressed to her parents' lambs fry and bacon on toast, boil-up puha and mutton-bird, pipis on a bonfire, green bananas, raw fish and coconut milk, corn chips and guacamole, frozen peas, oysters, kina, and finally raw scallops.
The pervading theme was the association with people she valued. Rachel certainly came over as a dynamic person with a very human touch.
