Last Meeting: Ben Paradza
In 2003 Ben was the Zimbabwean High Court judge and was advised to immediately leave his country. He skipped the country overnight in a haulage truck, leaving his entire family behind, temporarily living in Pretoria, before being granted NZ Refugee status. It then took 5 months before he could leave.

Settling eventually in Wellington in 2006, he began to establish himself before his family eventually arrived.  He regained his NZ legal status again when he was admitted to the Bar in 2011 - a huge effort. However since then, getting permanent work in a legal firm has proved very difficult so besides doing Employment Law work, he has also taken driving for Uber.

He shared his views on what Zimbabwe was like when Robert Mugabe was like when he became President, how things had changed in more recent years when the people rejected his proposed Constitution and Land Reform programme; 5 million people have already left. As to the future under the new leadership, he hopes it will return to the beautiful country it once was - not that he will ever see it again, sadly.

Week's Parting Thought: From the Devil's Dictionary

Once Law was sitting on the bench,
And Mercy knelt a-weeping.
"Clear out!" he cried, "disordered wench!
Nor come before me creeping.
Upon your knees if you appear,
'Tis plain your have no standing here."

Then Justice came. His Honor cried:
"_Your_ status? -- devil seize you!"
"_Amica curiae,_" she replied --
"Friend of the court, so please you."
"Begone!" he shouted -- "there's the door --
I never saw your face before!"
~ Ambrose Bierce, US author & satirist (1842 - 1914)
