Last Meeting: Toga & Liz Tofilau, Salvation Army's T-House Managers

Speaking softly, clearly and without any notes, Toga and his wife Liz gave a quietly inspirational description of their life with "Transition Housing".  With the help of Housing New Zealand they help up to seven families at a time adjust to functional living.  The families are usually referred to them by Oranga Tamariki, and usually have young children.

Over 6 months Toga and Liz will take each family through four stages: self-development, parenting, (taken by Liz), budgeting, (where Brian Klee assists), and home management.  Often the families have so many issues that it takes up to three months to gain their trust, but eventually they mostly do.  Over the nine years they have worked with 105 families, 105 children.  Many of these have maintained their contact, and trust, long after the 6-month programme finishes.

Everyone in attendance were filled with respect for what they do, and what they have done 24/7 for nine years.

Parting Thought:

Problems call forth our courage and our wisdom; indeed, they create our courage and our wisdom. It is only because of problems that we grow mentally and spiritually. It is through the pain of confronting and resolving problems that we learn." ~ M. Scott Peck

Bulletin Contribution

What an Experience
Some members and friends may remember the year I was District 9940 District Governor (2001-2002).  I had a project to raise funds to support the Sewa Sadan Eye Hospital in Bhopal, India.
