Guest Speaker - Dr Paul Young
Last Monday we were captivated by the excellent presentation from Dr Paul Young.  Paul was able to deliver, what was quite a technical subject, Intensive Care Research, in an ‘easy to understand’ format.  Paul shared how he had completed a BSc (Hons) at Victoria University of Wellington, before studying medicine at the University of Auckland.  Paul completed most of his Intensive Care Specialist training in Melbourne, before returning to Wellington where he has worked as an Intensive Care Specialist since 2010.  In 2016 he also completed a PhD in clinical research.

General Notices

 
* The roster can change weekly with absences etc so please check the roster each week to see if you have a duty.
 
* Petone Rotary Fair
  • The fair will be held this Saturday 15 February 10am - 4pm Jackson Street Petone
  • This is the 35th consecutive year it has been held
  • About 35,000 people are expected to visit Jackson Street for the Fair
  • There will be 327 stalls and 280 individual stall holders
  • All stalls (except one which may be filled by a food outlet) have been booked
  • Vibe and Youthline have been provided with stalls at no cost to these organisations to assist in spreading their help to the community
  • The Fair is the major fundraiser of the Petone Rotary Club and the club is most grateful for the help it gets from other groups including Eastern Hutt Rotary (we are providing 9 helpers this year)
  • We wish them the best for this very popular annual event
 
* Te Omanga Hospice Golf Tournament - 21 February 2025
Thank you to those members who have made themselves available to assist at the tournament. We will be able to allocate duties after the final planning meeting early next week. Thank you to the members who have agreed to assist with the putting up and down of the gazebos. Much appreciated.  
 
* Grocery Item for TOMH Golf Tournament
Would members please bring along to rotary next Monday a non-perishable grocery item for a basket to be raffled at the golf tournament. 
 
Police College Museum Visit - Monday 24 February has been cancelled. 
Upper Hutt Rotary has informed us that this Visit is cancelled, as the College no longer offer these visits, due to funding cuts.
 
* Wednesday Brunch Meeting
Next month's coffee morning on Wednesday 5 March has been postponed until 12 March because a number of attendees are away down south tramping.

Loss of Trevor Grice 
Sadly we have lost another well known PHF member and I have been asked to share the following with all clubs. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
Trevor Grice, Founder of Life Education Trust NZ and Paul Harris Fellow, passed away at home on Thursday, December 19, 2024, aged 92.  A Memorial Service will be held for him in Wellington (NZ) on February 22, 2025. Those wishing to attend or view his service via livestream should register through this website: https://tribute-to-trevor-grice.raiselysite.com/ Tributes to Trevor and messages of condolence can also be posted to the online memorial book through this website.

If you have any suggestions of charities/organisations who you believe are deserving of financial support from our Club, please let Tony Cornelius know asap. Tony will bring these to the Board for discussion.
 
* Past Presidents Meeting to Choose the President's Nominee
This meeting will be held following our main meeting on Monday 17 February. Earlier in the main meeting, members will elect a non-President delegate to attend the meeting on their behalf.  Please consider being this delegate.
