Sadly, Lottery Grants Board aren't going to help with buying the land, or the cottage, but they will likely help with the fitout, which would be great. Thanks heaps for your assistance to date with all this. The text of the official reply reads:
The Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) was formed in 2007 by a group of Rotarians, recognized by Rotary International, and focused on WASH projects. Since then it has facilitated many hundreds of projects – helping clubs find partners, ensuring sustainability, stressing the importance of a needs-driven approach, and developing best practices. We encourage a holistic, integrated approach in which water is not the end in itself, but is rather the means to a better life and livelihood in the community. Most importantly, WASRAG links water and sanitation to improved hygiene, better health, and empowerment of the community – especially women, irrigation and agriculture, education and literacy and, ultimately, child mortality.
Please study and plan ahead, especially if you are on duty to write a Bulletin Contribution. A reminder that it's also your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfill your duty.
Friends of Baring Head are a group of volunteers who are passionate about the history and nature of this iconic landscape on the Pencarrow Coast. After persuading Greater Wellington Regional Council to buy the land surrounding the lighthouse in 2010 and add it to East Harbour Regional Park, the Friends have pursued an exciting plan to upgrade the lighthouse keeper buildings and old pumping station, and to turn the site into a drawcard for tourists, day-trippers, trampers and those riding the Remutaka Cycle Trail, with interpretation panels and overnight accommodation. Rotary can help them realise this vision.
