Visit From Our District Governor Jocelyn Hogg
It was a pleasure to receive a visit from our District Governor, Jocelyn Hogg.  Jocelyn told us that she joined Rotary in 2015 to “create opportunities for herself, to do something for others and to sense the self-fulfillment that comes in that process”.  Since then, she has been an Area Governor, and has made many trips to Vanuatu to help with rebuilding efforts following Cyclone Pam, and is now on her journey as District Governor during the regionalisation process.

Police College Museum Visit - Monday 24 February (please note date change: 17 Feb)
We have been invited by the Rotary Club of Upper Hutt to join them on a visit to the Police College Museum, followed by a meal (possibly at Cobb & Co), on Monday 24 February. This will be in place of our usual meeting at Avalon Pavilion.  Arrival time at Police College Museum will be 6pm – 6:30pm. There will be an $8 fee + the cost of the meal.  We will meet at the Avalon Pavilion at 5:30pm to carpool, (other than those who proceed independently).
Please check your availability, so that we can firm up attendance numbers on Monday.

* Te Omanga Hospice Golf Tournament - 21 February 2025 - Save The Date
Please note the date in your diaries so we can have a full complement of members available on the day to assist.

* Christmas Pudding Sales
Many thanks for your club's participation in the Rotary Xmas Pudding campaign. This has been our best year ever.  Top of the leader board was Upper Hutt with Brian Proffit leading the charge, Karori came in a close second with Waitara led by Len Houwers coming in third place. However there were strong sales figures from many other clubs, it was great to see the contributions made by all.  Hopefully we managed to raise the profile of Rotary in our communities and made a worthwhile addition to club funds.
My thanks again
Phil Oliver
Rotary Club Of Karori, Xmas Puddings Convenor.
Special thanks to Anne Abbott who coordinates the sales each year for our club.

* Harmony for Hope Concert 4 April 2025
As part of the ‘Lifting the Lid’ programme Hutt Valley Rotary Clubs have established a Charitable Trust with the express purpose of supporting this programme and reducing the financial burden on individual clubs.  This fund raiser is a night of ‘movie-themed’ music from the Wellington Orchestra at the Lower Hutt Town Hall.  All of the funds raised will be used by the Charitable Trust for the ‘Lifting the Lid’ Programme.
The Lifting the Lid programme helps schools source additional or complementary interventions for students who have, or are at risk of developing, mental health issues.
Please find below a link to the website for this event and tickets sales:
Thank you for your assistance - Kevin Harris (Trustee, Lifting the Lid Charitable Trust)

Bill Boyd - The Complete Rotarian

William Bernard "Bill" Boyd CNZM, QSO - 16/5/33 - 22/1/25

Bill Boyd sadly passed away peacefully on January 22nd at Hawkes Bay Hospital.
Bill was President of Rotary International in 2006/2007, only the second New Zealander to hold that position.

On 30 June 2019 Bill finally drew closure to his stellar thirty years of international service to Rotary and returned to be 'Bill Boyd - Magazine Distribution’ and member of Pakuranga Rotary.

Always by his side during his years of service has been his much adored wife Lorna.  Lorna played her part in convention break-out sessions and became a fountain of Rotary knowledge which she graciously shared with whomever and whenever the appropriate occasion rose.

The members of the Pakuranga Rotary salute Bill's work for Rotary and its many endeavours.

Parting Thought

Kathy provided the parting thought at the end of our meeting -
"I would firstly just like to thank everyone for the messages and condolences that I have had since dad passed away last week.  My family have been overwhelmed with the love and support received from the rotary family so my parting thought for tonight is
" The family of rotary is all about building friendships and connections as a foundation for service"
