Last Meeting:Beryl Anderson - National Council of Women
Although she was originally from the Hutt Valley and a former librarian, Beryl joined the National Council of Women (NCW) initially in Rotorua in 1989. She spoke of how women's issues had changed since the 1800's with the historical account- and wow, haven't attitudes changed from the past.
Who can remember that the age for marriage consent back then was age 12 back then! Other issues were free education, age for leaving school, alcohol prohibition, STD's, prostitution.... etc.
Today, Beryl has a number of ministerial appointments and has represented the NCW on many issues both locally and internationally. Not being able to give her personal opinion was at times difficult, as it was always the Members' collective opinion she had to present.
Parting Thoughts:

"In every community, there is work to be done. In every nation, there are wounds to heal. In every heart, there is the power to do it." ~ Marianne Williamson
"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together than overwhelm the world." ~ Desmond Tutu
Once again Eastern Hutt Rotary had a team of enthusiastic volunteers at last week's Weetbix TRYathlon, supported by Mayor Ray Wallace and National Candidate, Chris Bishop.
