Last Meeting: Beryl Anderson - National Council of Women
Although she was originally from the Hutt Valley and a former librarian, Beryl joined the National Council of Women (NCW) initially in Rotorua in 1989.  She spoke of how women's issues had changed since the 1800's with the historical account - and wow, haven't attitudes changed from the past.
Who can remember that the age for marriage consent back then was age 12 back then!  Other issues were free education, age for leaving school, alcohol prohibition, STD's, prostitution.... etc.
Today, Beryl has a number of ministerial appointments and has represented the NCW on many issues both locally and internationally.  Not being able to give her personal opinion was at times difficult, as it was always the Members' collective opinion she had to present.

Parting Thoughts:

I never, ever grew up as a young woman believing that my gender would stand in the way of doing anything I wanted." ~ Jacinda Arden

"In every community, there is work to be done.  In every nation, there are wounds to heal.  In every heart, there is the power to do it." ~ Marianne Williamson

"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together than overwhelm the world." ~ Desmond Tutu

* Te Omanga Golf Day - this Friday!:  Over 30 teams have now entered, which exceeds our budget.  Thanks very much for all those who have contributed prizes and work together to make this day a big success.  Brian Clarke, Director Special Projects.
* The Rotary Foundation:  With only a few more days to 31st March, now is the right time to make a tax deductible donation to our own Foundation - no amount is too small.  To make one, contact Richard Perry or Dave Morris for details.
* Rotary Exchange: Christine Meredith and Anne Abbott are hosting Canadian and USA Rotarians on Wednesday and are having a Fish & Chip and dessert evening on Friday 29th March at Avalon pavilion starting time of 5.30pm to 9.30pm.  If you would like to join them Christine or Anne so they can coordinate the food. They are flying out on Saturday so it is our one chance for some to meet with them.
* Quiz Night - Tickets for this will be available next Monday.  Have you started making up your team?
* District Assembly - 19th May: If you are not able to attend the District Conference, you should consider attending this instead, especially if you're a Board Chairperson or never attended one before.  A reminder, if your Committee is seeking a District Grant, at least one person must attend this year's Assembly.  Get together a car load and share you Rotary discussions up and back!
