Last Meeting: Adam Manterys - the Polish children
Adam's father was one of 733 children and 105 adults moved out of Poland during the German occupation of the 2nd World War. He was one of nearly 2-million deported over a period of 6 weeks into railway cattle wagons, some with as little as 5 mins notice. They were then located into 4 forced slave labour camps in Russia & Siberia.
The full summary covering Adam's talk and The Polish Children of Pahiatua you can be read here.
For a more extensive read, the book "New Zealand's First Refugees - Pahiatua's Polish Children", this can be download here.
Week's Parting Thought:
"Fear grips the past as silent as the memories stolen from children.
Hope powers the future as loud as one man's land raised in peace."
A reminder to come along and enjoy Vicki Lee sing those legendary songs once sung by Vera Lynn! Alternatively, buy 2 tickets and give them away as a treat to family, or true Vera Lynn friends/fans.
Please study and plan ahead, especially if you are on duty to write a Bulletin Contribution. A reminder that it's also your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfil your duty.
