Question: Why was a certain quartet of EHR members absent from the Rotary meeting on Monday 13 March? (They did remember to apologise!)

Answer: They were completing a 7-hour round trip to the top of Mt. Hobson. 621 metres high and the highest spot on Great Barrier Island.

Quite a climb involving steep tracks and over 1130 steps to the top (see photo).  Even more steps coming down as we again climbed quite a lot in some places.

Magnificent views over Hauraki Gulf and Coromandel. The last photo shows the ridge we took to the right of Mt Hobson, taken as the track came into more open country as we continued to descend. An exhilarating experience!
