Thank you to all who attended the meeting on Monday where we held the AGM/Club Assembly for Eastern Hutt Rotary. I personally felt it was a very productive meeting given the amount of information we needed to attend to. Thank you to all officers who presented their reports showing the extent of mahi (work) you have all managed to discuss and plan for the remaining six months of this rotary year.
There is a busy time ahead for most committees which should lead to some exciting events and activities for us all to enjoy.
Of particular importance to this night was both the financial statement and the discussion of the new constitution which needed to be dealt with, with some urgency. A very robust discussion was held under the guidance of both Tony Cornelius and Kathy Bryant. The consensus being we now leave this in hand for Tony to complete in his timely manner.
Tony spoke to us of the requirement under our new Constitution, that there be three officers required to consent as Certified Officers for the club. It was agreed that they be Tony, Glenda and June. The Presidents position shall be subject to change each year as Changeover happens. The Secretary will hold and file signed consent forms for those agreeing to these positions. Furthermore, the club requires 10 members for it to be recognised as an active Rotary chapter. It is proposed that all club members be designated as registered with the Incorporated Societies. This will need a change to our club by-laws for this to happen. Once all the details are sorted and paperwork completed, a draft will be sent to Adrian Gregory to lodge the new Club Constitution. A copy of the constitution was sent to all members for their comments. It has also become apparent that there needs to be a contingency fund in place held by the committee to deal with anything club related i.e. stationary etc. It was noted that most clubs have a ‘working fund’ of around $10 – 15,000 per year. At present the fundraising efforts of EHC have not allowed for this as we tend to support the many ventures in our community which can sometimes lead to our detriment.
I presented my Presidents report for the first six months of this year, which I must say has gone far too quickly, and drew attention to the need for us all to approach suitable speakers to capture our attention but most importantly to focus on membership. This has become a matter of sustainability as we all tend to age (again) far too quickly.
A huge thank you to you all for your participation in what is undoubtedly the best Rotary club in the vicinity. Each one of you is worth a mention for what you do on Board level, Committee level and often the ‘behind the scenes’ level.
