In 1962 when Joe Tomlinson started his one-man painting business from his home in Epuni he had no idea that 56 years later the company would be what it is today.

The business has not moved far with head office based across the road from the Epuni railway station but Joe and his son Ray have transformed the business from a leading Wellington painting operation to one of New Zealand's largest and most progressive building washing companies employing over 30 staff and operators nationwide.

After celebrating 50 years in business the painting division was acquired by Joe's first apprentice of 45 years which left Joe to focus on the growing demands of the washing business branded as JT Property Wash.

From the early years in painting, Joe has always been on the lookout for better products and technology.  One such opportunity came with the introduction of the first airless spray machine that doubled as a water blaster which at the time was the fastest way to clean and apply paint.  "Dad knew great technology when he saw it, and he also became the leader in using rollers in the painting industry," says Ray

Fast forward to today and Joe and his team have embarked on the development of the world's first automated building wash robot.  "It has been two and a half years of development in conjunction with a US company and we have just secured our first building at Wellington Airport and we feel that the Sky's the limit for JT Property Wash," says Ray.
