Message from District Governor Carol Green
‘Thank you for a really lovely evening last night – Nigel and I loved every bit of it especially the band. They were amazing. We have decided to practice dancing so that next time we can get up and dance. You have such a warm and welcoming club who do a lot of good in the community and it is a pleasure to attend at any time. Please ensure you all have a great Christmas and a lovely holiday break. What a wonderful night we shared at the Christmas Party on 8th December. A huge thank you to all who helped to make the night such a success. To June, Helen, Ron, Mike and others who set up the room – you did a fantastic job of making everything look so festive. Thank you also to Jan, Jaye and Gary who manned the bar and the welcome table. We are so blessed to be able to share our duties amongst us all. To everyone who stayed behind to clean up afterwards, a massive thank you to you as well.
It was an honour to have our District Governor Carol Green and her husband Nigel Miller with us to share in our Christmas festivities. Carol knows many faces throughout our club so it was great to see the friendly hugs and welcomes as the night progressed.
I had the privilege of being able to present honorary membership to Judy Dearsley and Christine Meredith for all their years of service to the club. Personal circumstances for them mean they are unable to attend as much as they would like, so this was a fitting way to say we love to see them whenever they are able. Recognising members who have passed, and who over time have contributed so much to the lives of others is also a very important function of any President. I was privileged to be able to present a Pin of Remembrance to Luisa Tomlinson, wife of Joe as a recognition of dedication to Service. Joe will be dearly missed by us all for a very long time.
It was also my honour to present a Sapphire Pin to Robert Sinclair. During his time as Past President, Robert was instrumental in inducting the largest number of members in one year (6 members). This has not been able to be replicated since. During trying economic times, Robert has also played a major part in the supply of a trailer and goods for our Christmas raffle that has allowed us to procure necessary funds to support the many projects we affiliate to. A very worthwhile recipient indeed.
A beautiful Christmas spread of food was enjoyed by all and once again we thank Chalet Caterers and their staff for providing such a sumptuous feast.
Lastly but certainly not the least – our entertainment for the evening was Margy Bliss and her band Quite Some Company. Different from what we have experienced before, the comments I received were they were outstanding, and just what we needed. Margy resonates with what our club and its values stand for and we were so lucky to have them come and share our night. To have this topped off with our own resident Piper (Robert) ending the evening was very special indeed.
Thank you all for a wonderful past six months in my term as President. For me it has been one of learning and personal development. I don’t profess to get everything right but I certainly try to have you all alongside the values of Rotary, forefront of my mind in making any decisions.
