Our guest speaker last Monday was Robin Fenwick and the title of his address was "something of the mystery of King Richard the Third".
Richard was born in 1452, and became king in1483.  The War of The Roses, a series of civil wars for control of the English throne, ended during his reign.  He was a comparatively short man and only stood about 5 foot in height.

During his reign, he called only one Parliament, although he was responsible for a number of legal reforms, especially the laws relating to the loss of property and money prior to a person being convicted in court.
He was also responsible for the funding of the construction of Kings College and Queens College at Cambridge University.
King Richard died in August 1485, of head injuries, at the battle of Bosworth Field.
After his death, his naked body was strapped over a horse's back and paraded around Leicester.  Two days later he was buried at the Greyfriars church.  His remains were discovered in 2012 beneath a car parking lot in Leicester leading to a renewed interest in his life and reign.
