Tena koutou katoa
Well, what a wonderful speaker we had Monday evening. Belinda Wotton from the NZ Campus of Innovation and Sport spoke to us of the amazing centre within our region, and all it has to offer as a world class facility. She talked of it being grounded in Manaakitanga where it takes the holistic view of all people, their health and wellbeing, their views and goals, to heart. I’m not sure that anyone of us truly realised so much had been invested (financially and otherwise) at such a high-level right in our own backyard.

A timely reminder to keep thinking of those ideas for our membership discussion to be held when President Robin is recovered. I know this is an important issue that is ‘top of the list’ for his year.
It has become paramount for all Rotary groups over New Zealand to ensure our longevity. Please don’t be afraid to think of the fun ideas as well – we must break away from the perception that Rotary is only for the aged, and approach people of all nationalities, gender and age that we feel would gain so much more from being part of a proactive club.
Shelley asked for a breakdown of the work done on membership early on in my year, as new President. If you remember, committees filled out a questionnaire as best as they were able alongside some very robust discussion. Having looked back on my notes, what was very apparent and came across strongly, is that we all felt much the same way. Below is the collective of the answers given.
1.         We need better signage when out in the community to show which Rotary Group we are from.
2.         Social media is a ‘must’ to promote the work of Rotary.
3.         Our website needs looking at and improved.
4.         We need a designated membership committee.
5.         We need to target a younger age group (from 40’s upwards)
6.         Perhaps look at Chamber of Commerce membership.
7.         Encourage joint Rotary engagements with other clubs.
8.         Look at new ideas to promote the work of Rotary.
The above is what I had collated as written. If there are other ideas that were discussed but not written, please add to your paper for Robin.
Nga mihi
Glenda – Immediate Past President.
