Thanks everyone for another great Monday night. So good to see you all. With all these nasty flu’s and everything hanging about it’s important you stay home and get well if you start to feel ‘under the weather’. Our thoughts are with President Robin and David Gledhill as they recover. I was able to visit our lovely friend Judy Dearsley this week and pass on your regards for her swift recovery.
Judy is located at present on Level 3 of the Plastics Ward Hutt Hospital. I’m not sure if I was given the correct diagnosis of Judy’s hospital stay but it is evident she has had a nasty fall amongst other ‘happenings’ to her body. Doctors have said she is one of the most articulate patients they have seen in some time and I would tend to agree. Judy has asked that I pass on her thanks for your well wishes and to say that when she is on the mend (hopefully before Christmas, in her words), she will treat you all to a glass of champagne!
Thanks also to our wonderful speaker Merv Theobald on the workings of a Community Patrol volunteer. Truly a worthwhile position.
Lastly, if you watch the News you will see Government has announced a cap on the rates of between 2-4% for the year starting 2029. They have authorised councils to start this in motion for the coming Long Term Plan which is going to cause significant changes to the way our city is run and what we offer our residents. I am hoping to organise a joint meeting of all Rotary Groups to give clarity to what this means for all of us and to gain insight of a way forward. Rotary is not a political forum and neither should it be, but it may place differing requests for funding on us if things become tough.
