It was lovely to look through the bulletin from last week and then sit and watch the video “The Boys of 1905”. For me it reiterated just how far we have come as a rotary organisation, when it truly was a ‘Boys Club’. I believe women were invited in around the 1980’s (if I’m not wrong) and many changes have happened since that day.
We are no different from any other service club where we need to make serious decisions around membership for our organisation to survive. The good news is that we have detailed history of how that has happened in the past, and how it can succeed.
A huge congratulations to Absie for his years of service as a Rotarian and for his 40 years as Justice of the Peace. Amongst our club we have a vast array of talent and dedication all combined around an overflowing cup of service to the community. For that we can be very proud.
Thank you also to Shelley for another successful Healthy in the Hutt at Walter Nash Stadium. I know from those I talked to, how important this gathering is and how it connects organisations together. We even had music – lovely Gaylene from Project Village had brought her ukelele, and had people singing and dancing together. Thank you to the guys from the fire brigade who joined in with their lovely voices.
A warm welcome to our new Directors for 2026/27 who I believe you were introduced to last week. Thank you all for putting your hands up to work alongside Robin in his term as ‘el Presidente’. I am sure you will do a sterling job.
