Gregory was born and grew up in Colombo, Sri Lanka.  After completing a Civil Engineering degree, he went to Japan to do a Masters in Environmental Engineering and PhD in Hydraulics and Hydrology.

He and his wife Christanthi lived in Japan for 6 years and while there, their eldest two children were born.  Their 3rd son was born back in Sri Lanka, where they stayed for another 7 years before coming to New Zealand.

They’ve now lived in NZ for 17 years and in Lower Hutt for 10 years.  Both Gregory and Christanthi work at the Open Polytechnic, 5 of those years for Unitec in Auckland.  Christanthi works in the academic Quality Assurance area.

Their 3 boys went to St. Peters and Pauls, St. Bernard’s and St. Pats Silverstream.  Then all, onto Auckland University, doing Civil Engineering.  Their eldest son followed in his Dad’s footsteps, doing a PhD in Japan and marrying a Japanese girl.  They now have a baby and live in Auckland.  Their 2nd son is currently studying in Japan and working towards his PhD and unsurprisingly, their 3rd son is doing his PhD but at Auckland University.

Gregory is a lover of cricket, but also plays table tennis, chess and playing cards.  They both spend a lot of time in Auckland to be with their family.
