On March the 1st our inaugural Walk for Mental Health was held. The weather was stunning, the harbour was flat, no wind – everything we could have possibly asked for.
Approximately 200 walkers turned up for the event. Many of them wearing purple and carrying purple balloons. The band “No Strings Attached” were great and gave the event a really festive atmosphere.
Currently we have raised about $2,500, however there are still expenses to be deducted so I should be able to give you a final figure next week.
This event wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of the “Walk for Mental Health” committee who took on the challenge of starting this initiative and took it through to delivery. They did an amazing job.
Special thanks to the extra Rotary helpers who turned up on the day and worked on the registration desk and as Marshalls. An extra thanks to Mike Fackney who worked out how to set up the Eftpos machine and then competently used it to receive payments. Also big thanks to Kathy's two young men who did a brilliant job on the barbeque.
Further thanks to our sponsors, the Tenths Trust, to those who made donations and to the walkers who participated.
I am so proud of what we have achieved. It has been an awesome start to what will be an annual event.
