Last Meeting:
Our District Governor, Gillian Jones was our guest speaker. Gillian now lives, with her husband Kevin, in Greytown but still works in Wellington in leadership training.
She spoke of her hopes for our Rotary district. A priority is raising money for the new Children's Hospital being built in Wellington as special centenary project, it being 100 years since the first Rotary Clubs were chartered in New Zealand, in Auckland and Wellington. Another emphasis should be on supporting vaccination programmes, particularly for vulnerable communities.
Gillian would like every club to have a special project that will get them noticed in their community. She also wants every club to help its community recover from the effects of Covid19, especially supporting Foodbanks and other means of supporting social and economic recovery. She quoted World RI President Holger Knaack in recommending each club have at least one strategic planning meeting every year lest it gets too set in its ways. As Paul Harris said, "We have to be revolutionary from time to time."
Gillian hopes each club will become a Centurion Club, i.e. where every member donates at least $US100 and closed with an invitation to attend the District Conference in the Wairarapa with its theme of "Future-proofing our Heritage."
Please study and plan ahead, especially if you are on duty to write a Bulletin Contribution. A reminder that it's also your responsibility to find a replacement if you are unable to fulfill your duty.
