Another great Monday night just past. Good food, good company and a great speaker.
Thank you to Robin Aitken for passing on the name of Kevin Clark, who spoke to us about his forays from ‘Baghdad or Bust’ in 1964. A motorbike with sidecar saw himself and a friend ride from London to Baghdad and back having many wonderful and slightly ‘hairy’ experiences along the way. Kevin has given the same talk to 23 other clubs around New Zealand and was easy to see why he was in so much demand.
We are all looking forward to the Wine Tasting evening on Friday night hosted by the International Committee which I am sure is going to be a great success. Thank you for all the hard work that has gone into accessing the Vineyards, managing the nibbles etc.
Unfortunately we have had some sad news as well. Our own Graeme Ballentyne has suffered a stroke that has left him with some recovery needed to ensure his walking and balance is up to par. I have spoken to Graeme and whilst (at the time) still in hospital, his prognosis is good and he should make a full recovery.
Sir John Clarke past member of this club has also suffered a heart attack and was in hospital awaiting surgery on Monday. I ask that we keep these two gentlemen in our thoughts and pray for their return to good health.
Next Monday 25th we are scheduled to hear from Cynric Temple-Camp and his work in Pathology. This should be a scintillating speech and one I am sure you will all enjoy. I am told it is not for the squeamish so ‘be prepared’. Reminding everyone partners are invited as well, but please remember to get numbers to Tony by Sunday for catering.
Finally thank you to everyone who helped in collecting for Te Omanga Hospice. There is still a modicum of generosity out there for such a worthwhile charity that helps so many.
