May 24, 2018 6:30 PM - 11:00 PM
A Black Tie Dinner has been arranged by Caii-Michelle Baker to raise funds for the rebuilding of a school destroyed by the recent earthquake in Mexico.
It is to be held at the Avalon TV Studios O. It is going to be a very fine evening with entertainment provided by Caii-Michelle and her band, in the presence of a number of distinguished guests including Mayor Ray Wallace and diplomatic representatives.
Three chefs from different countries will prepare the food and there will be spot prizes.
We earnestly hope that we can manage to gather enough interest among our members to fill at least one table for Eastern Hutt Rotary.

Preservation of Christ Church in Taita
Jun 25, 2018
The significance of Christ Church far exceeds its age, it was the catalyst for Parliament deciding to pass the Historic Places Act (1954) and the later formation of the Historic Places Trust. This was the first time New Zealanders had lobbied to save a historic building. The Church and graveyard are now both a memorial to the faith and determination of the settler families and local Maori and to the vision of those who have worked for its preservation. |

"I've been drawing all my life but it was only after I retired that I took up art seriously. I was prevailed upon to join the committee of Hutt Art Society and was made a vice president because nobody else wanted the job. Within 18 months the President died and still nobody wanted the job! Basically I am a landscape painter but I also enjoy life drawing (nudes) and portraits. I was a cartographer before I retired. My wife Pam is a singer and my oldest son is a singer/composer so we are quite an artistic house." |

Chris grew up on a farm in the central North Island and spent 16 years nursing then joined the Police Force. After 18 years she left the police because she realised that Supergrans was the organisation she wanted to work with. She will tell us about the work that Supergrans does in our community. |
